Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehab is our customized program of exercise and education. Your doctors may recommend it to help you return to better health after a heart attack or if you have certain other heart conditions.

You may benefit if your medical history includes:

  • Heart attack within the past 12 months
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Recent stable angina
  • Valve repair or replacement
  • Angioplasty or stent
  • Peripheral arterial disease
  • Certain congenital heart diseases

Our goals include helping you regain your strength, improve your cardiac function, prevent your condition from worsening, identify and reduce other risk factors and your risk of future heart problems. And those can add up to a better quality of life.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Phases

  • Phase I: In-hospital recovery
  • Phase II: Outpatient cardiac reconditioning (begins as soon as four weeks after discharge)
  • Phase III: LRMC Wellness Center
  • Phase IV: Maintenance, LRMC Wellness Center, other facility or home.

In addition, a Cardiac Rehab Home Care program is available through Home Health Services which provides a transition between hospital care and a more vigorous outpatient program, like Phase II Cardiac Rehab.

A thorough evaluation helps your health care team assess your physical abilities, medical limitations and other conditions you may have. Don't worry if you've never exercised before. Our cardiac rehab team will make sure the program moves at a pace you're comfortable with.

Medicare covers 80% of the cost of cardiac rehab up to 36 sessions. Most private insurance also covers some or all of the cost.

The Villages Regional Hospital provides van service for area residents who wish to ride to the program at LRMC.
